The Great Gatsby
About the author:
F. Scott Fitzgerald(弗朗西斯·斯科特·菲茨杰拉德,1896-1940) is one of the major American writers of the 20th century —a figure whose life and works embody powerful myths about national dreams and aspirations. He also left us a near-masterpiece, Tender Is the Night《夜色温柔》.
About The Great Gatsby:
The Great Gatsby explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream.Today, The Great Gatsby is widely considered to be a literary classic and a contender for the title "Great American Novel." In 1998, the Modern Library editorial board voted it the 20th century's best American novel and second best English-language novel of the same time period.
Highlights:
uWhenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.
uYet high over the city our line of yellow windows must have contributed their share of human secrecy to the casual watcher in the darkening streets, and I was him too, looking up and wondering. I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.
