About the author:

Ernest Hemingway（欧内斯特·海明威，1899－1961）is a giant of modern literature.

Among twentieth-century American fiction writers,his work is most often compared to that of his contemporaries William Faulkner（威廉·福克纳 ，1949年诺贝尔文学奖得主）and F. Scott Fitzgerald（弗朗西斯·斯科特·菲茨杰拉德，Tender Is the Night《夜色温柔》与The Great Gatsby 《了不起的盖茨比》之作者）.  

 Hemingway’s four majornovels include：The Sun Also Rises《太阳照样升起》,A Farewell to Arms《永别了，武器》,For Whom the Bell Tolls《丧钟为谁而鸣》.

《老人与海》是海明威晚年的完美之作——凭借这部作品，他荣获1953年的普利策奖和1954年度的诺贝尔文学奖。同时该书也被评为影响历史的百部经典之一；美国历史上里程碑式的32本书之一；1986年法国《读书》杂志推荐的理想藏书，48小时内卖出530万本，销量曾排名第一。
